Mitchell Starc’s IPL Deal Has “Delighted” the Former Australian Star. Says This About The Price Of Pat Cummins

While supporting Mitchell Starc’s incredible Rs 24.75 crore contract, former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie questioned Pat Cummins’ exorbitant IPL price tag, arguing that T20 cricket is not the greatest format for fast bowlers. Following a fierce bidding battle between the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who paid an incredible Rs 20.50 crore for the Australian skipper, Cummins secured the second-highest salary in the auction held in Dubai on Tuesday.

We’ve seen that Pat is a strong leader as well as a quality bowler. T20 isn’t his finest format, in my opinion,” Gillespie said on SEN Radio.

“In my opinion, he is a Test bowler. I believe that playing Test cricket is his main source of income.” Cummins, who has amassed 55 wickets at an average of 24.54 and an economy of 7.37 in 50 Twenty20 International matches, was hardly the only player to fetch enormous prices at the IPL auction. KKR has paid Rs 15.5 crore for his services before the 2020 edition.

“There’s no denying that he’s a decent T20 bowler. However, I think that’s really over,” Gillespie said.

Starc overtook his captain to become the most expensive player in IPL history a little over an hour after Cummins signed a contract, with Kolkata Knight Riders paying an astounding Rs 24.75 crores for the left-armer’s services.

Starc, who has often chosen to serve his country on the international field over the IPL, has only participated in two of the lucrative league’s seasons, collecting 34 wickets at an average of 20.38 in 27 games.

“He seems like a terrific purchase. We all know it’s a lot of money, but the Indian Premier League is an extremely lucrative competition. I couldn’t be more happy for Mitch.

“It simply emphasizes how highly teams regard left-arm fast bowling and left-arm swing bowling at a quick pace,” Gillespie said.
